It takes a village to raise a child. Little Village Play Paths examines the systems necessary to foster child independence and safety in Detroit. By transforming underutilized alleyways into a mobility network of play spaces that provide real-time safety data on local conditions, the project simultaneously cultivates a community of neighbors dedicated to maintaining these spaces.
Through a combination of physical, digital, and cultural interventions, Little Village Play Paths expands parental comfort thresholds, empowering children to navigate their neighborhood autonomously.
